  • Derrick’s authority and experience in music has been built upon a career spanning media, music industry and radio. As a design school student of the University of Technology, Sydney, Derrick developed his keen eye for design and visual communication. He entered the world of broadcast television and early digital media, where he developed and produced shows for both network television and online.

While working at the TV production company Fremantle, in 2012 Derrick launched his weekly independent radio show, Finetooth Radio - a long-dreamt passion of connecting his music taste with a global audience. This passion project not only further educated Derrick in the depths of music and culture, but expanded his broadcast experience, taking his show from community radio to residencies on NTS Radio (‘16-’20), high end London listening bar Spiritland (‘17-’19) and North American satellite radio network SiriusXM (‘21-’23).

After a decade honing his craft at Fremantle, Derrick moved to London to work with music streaming platform Mixcloud, where he led up the production of the company’s brand partnerships division, LOUD. Working with brands Dr. Martens, adidas, W Hotels, Jagermeister and Farfetch, Derrick held music and culture events throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East with the likes of Peggy Gou, Kelsey Lu and IDLES.

Derrick then spent three years working as a creative director for US record label 88rising - residing in both New York and his now permanent residence of Sydney, Australia. Here Derrick worked directly with artists to create memorable online and offline moments through music releases and festivals. It was at 88rising that Derrick launched North America’s first 24/7 Asian-focused radio station, 88rising Radio on SiriusXM. Following from this, Derrick worked as a creative director, manager and consultant for record labels and artists.

In early 2022, Derrick began his content creator journey, rapidly rising as a prominent voice in music tastemaking, music industry commentary and hifi. Blending music and pop culture analysis, criticism and inspiration with a sense of humour, Derrick quickly stood out as a trusted, knowledgable and authoritative figure in music and entertainment.

  • The mission of my pages is to educate, inform, and inspire viewers on all things music, hi-fi, design, and film. Since the inception of my channels, I have worked to uphold the trust of my audience by sharing authentic insights from both a fan and professional standpoint.

I strive to create a welcoming and trusted environment by ensuring that all the content I share stems from genuine personal interest and passion. I will never pursue paid promotions with brands I do not align with, nor will I deceive viewers about the content I showcase. Transparency and authenticity are always my priorities.

The following subheadings outline the decision-making framework I use when working with artists, labels, brands, and individuals, as well as the considerations I make regarding the impact on my audience.

    Music Promotion and Playlisting

As an avid music lover and industry professional, my reputation has been built on genuine interest, knowledge, and the discovery of incredible artists, music, and creative processes. Every video is solely researched and written by me, giving me full control over what I choose to share on my channels.

To protect the credibility of my pages, I do not offer marketing, promotion, or playlisting services (paid, unpaid, or otherwise) for musicians, labels, management, publishing companies etc. Doing so would undermine the reputation and trust I have built with my audience—something I am unwilling to compromise at any cost.

I am unable to review or listen to music submissions.

    Artist Interviews

Currently, I only interview artists in person, exclusively on my show Solid Air—a format that has welcomed Jamie xx, Max Richter, Lorde, Ichiko Aoba, and many others into my home studio. This show is filmed at my personal residence.

    Music Festivals

I have, and will continue to, work with festivals in a paid partnership capacity—provided I maintain creative control over the content I create and can handpick the music and artists I feature. The distinction here is that I am able to share music I genuinely love while promoting the festival as the host of these musicians. All such partnerships are clearly disclosed through the Paid Partnership label.

    Physical Music Media Gifting

As of 5 November 2025, I no longer accept gifted vinyl, CDs, or artist merchandise. In 2024, I opened my mailbox to labels and artists in the hope of showcasing new music to my audience. Unfortunately, the volume of submissions has grown beyond what I can reasonably listen to and review.

    Press Trips

I am unable to participate in traditional press trips that offer travel, accommodation, or tickets in exchange for coverage. As an independent creator, I only operate under paid partnership agreements, where my flights, accommodation, time, and posts are compensated. The Paid Partnership label will be applied to all such collaborations.

Hi-Fi & Fashion Gifting, Product Promotion, Disclosures & Transparency

For non-music related gifting or partnership inquiries, please reach out to info@derrickgee.com.
While I appreciate brand gifting—whether hi-fi equipment or clothing—receiving a product does not guarantee it will be featured, unless otherwise agreed upon. I only accept products that align with my personal interests and that I would feel comfortable showcasing organically in my content.

    Brand Partnerships

Having carved out a niche across music, hi-fi, design, and film as a credible and respected voice, I only consider partnerships with brands that understand my mission and values, and who wish to grow alongside me in those areas.

I will only collaborate with brands I already have an affinity for and whose products I would recommend regardless of payment. If I do undertake a paid promotion, I focus on showcasing the product’s features rather than making explicit calls to action (e.g. “you must buy this product”), as that would conflict with my commitment to unbiased reflection.

To maintain full transparency, I always disclose when a post is sponsored or when an item has been gifted—whether through an in-video mention, a Paid Partnership label, or a collaborative post. This ensures viewers can take into account the commercial nature of the content when making their own purchasing decisions.
